Grand Marais to Ely, Another Waterfall Day!

The coffee at the Aspen Lodge was not ready until 7 am so headed down for breakfast at 7 am.  It was a continental breakfast so it was not very exciting.  Cereal, toast, OJ, and coffee.

We packed up and headed out to drive to Ely.

The restaurant we ate at last night, the Birch Terrace.  It looks like it was a converted home.

As we drove south we passed over a bridge where I noticed a waterfall.  "Quick, stop the car"!!!  Jeanne is good at stoping on a dime and making U-turns as needed.  Luckily this time there was a close parking lot.

The Cross River Falls

We noticed that there was a trail on the other side of the street so we headed there hoping to get a picture of the falls and the bridge.

Not much luck with that.  The trail did not go very far.

Since we had already stopped, we decided to go back to the Temperance River Falls, that we had just passed.

Less impressive of a falls, partly because it was so close to the bridge.

This one also had a trail heading down.  This was a much better trail.  It went down to the lake. Great view of the river gorge and bridge.

I went down further closer to the lake.  Got a slightly different perspective.

Lake Superior

We decided to check out up stream to see if we would see more falls.

There was supposed to be a waterfall in that gorge.

There was a waterfall back in the gorge but how to see it.

Got it but it was awkward getting the picture. Note the fishing bobs hanging from the branch.  Crazy place to try to fish.

A fallen tree.

Back on the road again.

Next stop, Baptism River. This was a more placid river with no close waterfall.

Next stop was Kawishiwi Falls.  We go to this waterfall every time I visit Jeanne.  It is a nice walk and the falls are impressive.

Nice trail!!

We got to Jeanne & Jay's place about 1 pm.

Time for lunch.  We had sandwiches, cantaloupe, chips, and cookies.  It hit the spot.

Jay was busy this morning stacking all of these logs. They were from a Birch tree that came down.

We sat on the deck with our margaritas.  It ended out being a gorgeous day.

Their view of the bay.

Choir practice was at 6 pm.  Both Jeanne and Jay are in the choir.  I went along.  I always like to listen.

After choir we went to the Boathouse for pizza.  Bev & Dan joined us.  They always order the same thing each time. The Whole Boat - pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, onion, green pepper, and olives. Everyone shares.

Then we came home and watched IF.
