Mount Vernon to Pdx

We had a leisurely morning with a relaxed breakfast.  It was raining out so we did not go on a walk.  Nathan went on a short walk.

Debbie's new workbench for her carving.

Beginnings of a new project

She hasn't glued all the pieces together yet.

She plans to cut through the background to make it open.

We left the house at 9 am to go to the train station for our 9:43 am train. We got there in plenty of time.

Art near the station

Stained glass in the train station.

The train was pretty full so we sat in the lounge car. That was nice.

After Seattle, we had lunch. Grilled (heated in the microwave) cheese sandwich and tomato soup.

We arrived in Portland about 1/2 hour late. Rebecca met us.  That was nice.  We dropped Nathan off and got home around 5 pm.

Kris and Sharon came over and picked Jeanne and me up to go to dinner at Otto and Anita's restaurant.

Dill pickle soup.  It was yummy.

I had the Swiss chicken, spaetzel, carrots, and kale. It was all delicious.  Everyone else had some type of schnitzel. We came back to my place for apple strudel and wine. We also talked about some possible future travel plans.

A Fun Day

Morning views

The view from the living room

Roman took this picture. The moon does look red.

We had a nice breakfast of cereal.  Once we were all breakfasted and showered we went on a neighborhood walk.

More cars.

The lake

A tiny waterfall

After getting in from the walk we came up with a plan.  We decided to go to Deception Pass.   We found a place to park. We walked around a little on one side of the bridge, then we walked across the bridge. It was gorgeous.

See the cave?

It was windy and cold.

I know someone who would not have wanted to walk across this bridge.  We walked back on the other side of the bridge.

Mount Baker

Then we drove to lunch.  Joe met us for lunch.

The Calico Cupboard. It was a very popular place.  We had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated.

I had a triple fruit lemonade

My delicious tuna melt.

We were done eating by 2 pm and our dinner reservations were for 6 pm. This gave us time to nap or play 10, 9, 8. We had one round where we all played so it was 8, 7, 6.

Joe's Porsche 911

We did manage to see some snow geese.

Nathan was helping Joe park the car as close to the curb as possible (and as far away from the neighboring vehicle).

Dinner at Nell Thorn.

I had Mary's airline roasted chicken with mashed potatoes, roasted carrots and kale.  Apparently "airline" chicken refers to the cut with a breast and wing. It was very good. The wine was a Sancerre rosé.

After dinner we walked the boardwalk

The Rainbow Bridge.  I guess they had to get special approval to not the bridge be painted green. The ODOT green bridge color started in Oregon.

A fun painting.

Joe's finger is pointing to their home.  You can also see Deception Pass on this map.

We headed back to the house.  We relaxed a bit while Joe got our dessert ready.

It was Pi day so we had little blueberry pies.

We had time for another round of  8, 7, 6 before people headed off to bed.
