Home at Last

We finally boarded a little after 10 pm.  The flight was uneventful. We even got a free glass of wine.  We landed at 12:45 am.

The signage  the Portland airport is fabulous. What a nice airport.

We got a Lyft ride home.  Nathan decided to spend the night. We got home by 1:30 am and I was in bed by 1:45 am.

So we are home at last.

Glendale to Portland

We met Jamie at the Paris Baguette which was close to his place and to the pickleball courts.  It is much smaller than the one near Sharon's.

But it was still good.

We had a 9 am reservation at the pickleball court.  We decided that we had to split up Pam and Jamie.  Nathan and I rotated being partners between the two of them.  They are definitely too good for us.

We don't need any more pictures of the 4 of us.  Sharon & Michael came around 10 am  with Ella and Nicole.
This is the climbing structure at the park.  Nathan enjoyed climbing it with Ella and Nicole.  Michael was watching his kids.

Nathan and Ella went down the big slide.

Then Ella could join us on the pickleball court.  She is pretty good.

After we finished our 2 hours at the pickleball court we headed to Sharon and Michael's.  We had already checked out of our Airbnb.  We had a chance to shower and change.  We had leftover Indian food for lunch.

We hung out and played games

Their array of decorated pumpkins.
Bunch of bananas waiting to ripen.  On their tiny yard they have avocados, oranges, lemons, bananas, apples, and lots of mint.

Some vigorous playing was happening.

We walked up the street to go get ice cream.  Ella and Nicole like the frozen yogurt shop where you can pile on the toppings.  The rest of us went on down the street to an ice cream shop.

We got a group picture.

Sharon, Micheal, me, and George in back
Nicole, Nathan, Ella, Jamie, and Pam in front

Then it was time for us to head off to the airport.  We were not sure how long the shuttle to the airport would take.  This shuttle bus is definitely something which needs improvement.  It took us almost an hour to turn in our car and get to the airport.  Come to find out there was no rush.  Our flight was delayed.  Argh!!!!

The airport itself is very nice but right now we never want to come here again.

This used to be the Bob Hope International airport and now it is The Hollywood Burbank airport.  I guess some people are unhappy about dropping the Bob Hope.

Our flight was delayed several times.  Announcement the flight will be at gate 8 ... No gate 7.... No 8 .... Maybe  it will be canceled.  No they are changing planes and it should be here.  Now instead of getting to Portland at 8:30 pm we should be arriving at 1:03 AM!!

I think that this airport is getting a negative review from us.  They could not help the flight delay but things were beyond expensive.  An egg sandwich and a glass of wine cost over $60. Nathan and I shared a sandwich and glass of wine. George had a $25 burrito.

After eating dinner we received a $96 voucher from Alaska for food.  Not wine.  I was able to go back and get my egg sandwich taken off.  George had trouble getting his sandwich taken off.  But he used the voucher for some other food items.  We now have bananas for breakfast.  ;-)

I am going to send this now.  I will send an arrival message in the morning. I think that I will go straight to bed when we get home.  We will have to take an Uber or Lyft to get home.

Saturday in Glendale

This tree was right by our Airbnb.

I was surprised to see this tree blooming.  There were several of them around.  When I looked them up they are called Silk Floss trees and they bloom in October and November in Southern California.

We walked to Paris Baguette at 8 am for breakfast. Jamie met us there.  What a lot of choices.!!

Montrose has some of their Halloween/Autumn Festival decorations up. We had a nice breakfast.  We walked back to the Airbnb.  We got the car and headed to Sharon and Michael's.  Once we were all there, we headed off to the Gene Autry Museum.  Nathan went in Pam's car and Jamie came with George and me.

Ella & Nicole could sit and watch while it looked like action was happening around them.  That was fun.

This is the type of bicycle seat Nathan would like on his new bike.

They could put stickers on a pumpkin.

We all had to take our turns posing on the horse.

The banana picture is everywhere.

We had lunch at Panera and then we headed back to our place to change so that we could play pickleball again while Ella & Nicole were napping.

We headed back to the Airbnb to shower and change and then headed to Sharon and Michael's.  Once Pam got there we walked to Trader Joe's with Ella & Nicole to pick up a few essentials for making a banana upside down cake.

Nicole was working on her artwork.

Ella was reading the recipe instructions for Nathan.

They all were helping

Pouring the batter into the pan.

Taking it out of the oven.

Ahh!! The finished product.

Jamie and Pam had gone to pick up dinner from an Indian restaurant.
Quite the array of food.
Ella and Nicole couldn't believe that Jamie and I are siblings.

We went on a neighborhood walk to see some of the Halloween deccorations.

Pretty close to full moon.

Ella & Nicole posed with the decorations.

This neighborhood goes all out.

Once we got back we had cake and ice cream.  Then when the kids were getting ready for bed we played a rabble rousing game of cards.

We headed back to the apartment.

They have 2 love seats in the living room.  It is a good thing that I do not need to sleep on the couch here.
