Best Laid Plans

We went to For Five for breakfast. I had a breakfast sandwich, which was quite good.

T

After breakfast we walked to the apartment.  Pretty much as soon as we got there we were ready to head out for our morning plan of going to the Theodore Roosevelt park to walk around. The park was only about 1 1/2 miles from the hotel but we decided to take 2 Lyft cars and Sharon drove her car with Ella and Linda.  Michael and Nicole stayed home.

It took a while to get to the entrance to the parking lot.  There were many road closures.  When we got there we found it blocked off.  The Lyft drivers dropped us off with no problem but Sharon was stuck.  There was no place for her to park.  Come to find out, the parking lot was blocked off because today is the 4th.  They wanted to keep people away from the area due to the fireworks.  Argh!! So Sharon went off to another park.
We waited for a Lyft

We tried to get 2 Lyft cars so that we could join Sharon, Ella & Linda at the new destination. No Lyfts available!! Argh!! We just walked back to the apartment.  Luckily, it was not very hot.

Our view of nature on our walk home.

We went by the Dark Star Park

Nicole was up when we got to the apartment.

Michael had ordered pizza to arrive at 12:15 pm.  Sharon got back with Ella and Linda just about noon.  Come to find out we are getting pizza TOMORROW at 12:15 pm since the restaurant is closed today.  Michael didn't notice.  Argh!! We quickly order take-out from a close restaurant.  Instead of lunch at 12:15, it was 1:45 pm.

Everyone likes Ella's magnet building toys. They are called Magna-Tiles. I recommend them.

Once we were done with lunch we headed back to the hotel.  Once everyone was settled, Sharon, Nathan and Linda were able to have a little quality cousin time.
They had ice cream and wine

Since we had such a late lunch we decided to go to the grocery store to pick up cheese and crackers for a light dinner.  Whole Foods was about 1/2 mile away.
Ella rode her bike the whole way.

We ended out with 2 big bags worth of groceries.  4 Cheeses, 2 types of crackers, bread, apples, watermelon, and various types of sushi. It was quite the spread.  We all had plenty for dinner. Once we cleaned up and put everything away we headed up to the top floor clubhouse, room 1401. We heard that 60 people would be allowed in to watch the fireworks. We got there early enough that we got seats for the whole group.  I don't think that anyone was monitoring the number of people. I love it when a plan finally comes together.  Michael and Nicole did not join us.
Front row seats.
Looking down onto the courtyard.
Not sure about the ghostly third ball.  It must be a relection of some sort.  It was great how they syncronized the display by the Washington Monument and the Jefferson Memorial.

Wow!!! what a show.  I think that it was well worth it.  It was not a very long show. We went back to the hotel right after the show.

Saturday Park Day

We headed downstairs for breakfast. It was not very good.  At least it was free.  Prior to the pandemic they had served good breakfasts. Now it is one step up from a grab and go bag.

Our hotel

We walked to Sharon and Michael's place. Nicole was still asleep.
Ella playing with fun magnetic building toys.

Nathan liked them as well. Ella was very particular about which color tiles she allowed Nathan to use.

The park was a very nice park.  It is part of a school, but they do allow the public to use it on weekends.

We had a nice lunch

We headed back to the hotel so that everyone could have a nap. ;-) Nathan and I had some iced sangria instead of a nap.  Later Linda and Jamie joined us.

Art at the hotel. We headed back to the apartment
Fun with stuffed animals

We were entertaining Ella.

Then we went out to the apartment courtyard area  with only 2 squirt guns.

Nicole joined us briefly

Foosball

It is a very nice courtyard.  It looks well used.  It is a well designed area.

We placed an Uber Eats order, so we could play while we waited for dinner.  We did not have to wear masks while outside.

They have a good view of the Washington Monument.  Tomorrow people will go to the roof top to watch the fireworks.  This year they will only allow 40 people up there, so I do not think that we will be in that group.

We went back up to the apartment to wait for dinner.

Nicole

More fun with the stuffed animal.  Nathan had given this pink otter to Ella.  He bought it last weekend when he was at the beach.

Nicole is getting ready for bath time.

We had a very good dinner. Michael says that he never places an order because he knows that there will be enough left over for him.  My chair tipped over when I was reaching for something.  Some how my glasses got bent.  George struggled to fix them.

We hung around until it was time for Ella to go to bed.   We stopped at the CVS Pharmacy to buy a glasses repair kit.  George was able to fix my glasses.  That was a relief.

All this "playing" has worn us out.
