Church and More Lakes

 

A little bird flew into the window and was stunned.  Jeanne went to rescue it.  The cats were very interested.  She thought that it might be a warbler, maybe a Magnolia Warbler.

She put it on the bird feeder and later it was gone so I guess it was ok.  

We went to Ely to go to church.  They all meet in the parking lot. A few people bring lawn chairs but most people stay in their cars.  Pastor Dana was preaching this time.  Pastor Craig was on vacation so Dana was subbing. We did some grocery shopping before heading home.  

  

The Pileated Woodpecker came back.

After lunch we went on another lake tour.

There is water on one side of the road but apparently that is now where people put their canoes in. 

They put in on this side of the road but since it is only a stream here they have to carry their canoes to where they can put in.

This is where they used  to put in but it is so dry this year they had to keep hiking further.  We stopped here. We did not actually see the Mudro Lake.  This is one of the key access points for going into the boundary waters.

Jeanne used to like to go to this lake because once you get here you can get your canoe right in the water and there was great fishing.  It is nice to see these lakes because I have heard Jeanne talking about going to these lakes and now I have a visual.

They have several paintings by this artist.  I have always liked it.

They have several tables showing off their arrow head collection.  Most of these they have found through the years. I have a lot of fond memories of hiking around the fields in Illinois during college to look for arrowheads.

We had an afternoon treat of frozen mango custard.  yummy. We worked on the puzzle until dinner time. 

After dinner we watched the Netflix documentary "The Social Dilemma" Scary and interesting documentary of some of the ways that social media can change our thinking. Kris had seen this and recommended it. 

Saturday - Lake Tour Day

Saturday is trash day.  They have to take all their garbage and recycling to this place.  They pay for however many garbage bags they want for then next time.  Usually it is 1 bag at a time.  Currently the trash days are Wednesdays and Saturdays.  During the summer it is open 3 days a week.  They pay a flat rate for either the small bag or more for the large bag.  They are allowed more things in their recycling. That is free. The person who works there sits at the white building waiting for people to come buy trash bags. It looks like a very exciting job.   

I asked Jeanne if there was something scenic that we could do that would not entail her walking much.  So she decided to take me on a lake tour.  

This ls part of the White Iron Chain but it is Garden Lake.  It is a close and easy place to put the canoe into the water. 

Fall Lake is the first lake that Jay brought Jeanne to, when they were dating.  This started the tradition that people had to pass the Ely test before they could become part of the Tomlinson family.  The tradition has passed on down to the next generation.

Moose Lake is the lake the boys scouts all used for all of their canoeing trips.

These grouse just aren't shy at all.  It posed at the side of the road, while I tried to get a picture.  Luckily there was no traffic.

Lake 1 is a good fishing lake. Lake 1 is connected to Lakes 2, 3 and 4.  All the rest of the lakes have regular names.

After Lake 1 we decided that it was time to head home for lunch.  Jeanne took care of the beans.  I guess some of the plants did not make it.  But she was able to pick a few more.  

Today was a warmer day.

Bicycle Art

In fact it was warm enough to sit out on the front deck with our Smirnoff Ice.

I had fun trying to take a picture of a butterfly.  It just wouldn't sit still. I was surprised to see a live butterfly.  I would have thought that it was too cold.

It was time to head into town.  We had a few errands and then we were going to watch "The Personal History of David Copperfield" movie.  We did our errands and we were still early for the movie so we stopped in at the small art gallery/store.

There were only 4 people in the theater this time.  I enjoyed it much more than Tesla but it still was a strange movie.  It is a remake of the 1935 David Copperfield movie.

Zup's Market.  

This is the local grocery store.  This is also where I get my annual supply of Zup's seasoning.  We stopped in for a few essentials after the movie.

We had a great dinner of chili and cornbread and margaritas.  Then we worked on the puzzle some more.

Night Furry sat beside me while I worked on my computer a short time to relax before turning out the light.  He slept with me for a while. I was surprised about that.
