Fiona made blogging a little more challenging.
Some morning clouds
Juvenile bald eagle
Fog and rain
A break in the clouds
We can see the whale sculpture from the house.
After breakfast we headed to the tram to get our all day pass.
We could see Erik's home from the top of the tram.
Mountain goats.
We took a trail up the mountain for even better views.
A lot of carvings in the trees
Father Brown's cross
Great view from the top.
The hike back to the lodge took half the number of steps as going up. We went a different way down.
We decided to head down on the tram to go for lunch at the food court.
I had a vegetable crepe and a white Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley. George and Nathan had fish tacos. Their food cart is the most popular so it had a long line. I was almost through with my crepe before they even got their food.
After lunch we did some dinking. We mostly stayed away from the shops which were right by the cruise ships. They were mostly jewelry or fur stores.
Odd name for a donut shop.
Fudge making
A wood carving in a store.
We went back up the tram to the Timberline Bar & Grill to have a little break.
I had the Glacier Margarita. It was yummy.
George had the brownie and ice cream which he shared.
We played a round of 10, 9, 8
After going back down the tram we looked at some of the art around.
4 masks
Nathan and I played a game of Connect 4
I won
We headed home for our meter down time.
I got to watch a couple of sea planes take off and land.
Bald eagle
Around 5:30 we headed to see the remains of the Treadwell Gold Mine. 1882-1922
Treadwell mine historic trail walking tour. A lot of nice trails with signs around explaining things. It was the most productive gold mine in USA.
Satan's celery. This was growing all over.
Now they have added a disc golf course around the ruins.
This was the only structure left standing and it has now been renovated. You can rent the space.
In 1917 the underground tunnels collapsed and instantly that was the end of this mine. It was very pretty and an interesting walking tour.
We walked along the beach to get back to the car.
We went to the Island Pub for dinner
