Monday in Bayfield, WI

 Lucy's place is owned by Barb and Bruce Hoekstra.  It is the former residence of the late Lucy Shovick, a lifelong resident of Bayfield. Her home was built in the 1800s and has been renovated. Bruce is the chef. We did not see much of Barb.  Bruce is quite the talker. They are ready to close up and head south for the winter.  They stay through the apple festival next weekend.  Our room is nice except that it does not have a shower.  Oh well. We had breakfast of apple muffins, apple slices and white fish quiche.  Ugh.  

He offered to fix us breakfast for tomorrow morning and we just asked for something grab and go.  We need to be on the road by 7:30 am.

We wandered towards the Visitor's Center and stopped at a memorial garden on the way.

We got some suggestions of some things to do.  We decided to check out the Big Ravine Trail.  It was well marked with a lot of signage.

 Today, stepping in Greunke's Restaurant is like stepping back in the '40's. The Coca-Cola memorabilia, the working Wurlitzer and old soda fountain counter conjure images reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell cover on the "Saturday Evening Post."  We split a BLT sandwich.  It was sort of boring.

We wandered around town, until it was time to go for our Apostle Island tour.

Dave was our pilot and tour guide and Gordy was our deck hand.  They were both very good.  Informative and humorous without seeming to be telling "jokes."

Devils Island lighthouse.  There are 9 lighthouses on the 22 Islands.  All but Madeline Island are part of the Apostle Island National Lakeshore.  No one has any idea why they are called the Apostle Islands, since there are 22 of them.  All the islands have changed names through the years except for Manitou Island.

Devil's Island sea caves.  This was the coolest part of the tour.  Amazing.

When the tour was over we had a few more shops to check out.

In the kitchen of the Lucy House and we relaxed with a glass of wine on the porch.

We decided to go to the Bayfield Inn for dinner again.  The ambiance is so much better than the other places we checked out.  We had to wait to get in.  We each had shrimp cocktail and a house salad.  We had had the house salad the night before and had really liked it so we had it again.  No pictures.  I should have taken a picture of the shrimp salad.  It had 6 jumbo shrimp.  

We headed back to the house.  18,600 steps.
